Compiles and completes existing maps with new sedimentologic and hydro-geologic data;
Provides information on thermal and mineral waters, respectively on water-collecting basins (aquifers);
Conducts detailed studies of sedimentary formations and interpretation of structural elements of formations.

3. This Directorate comprises the following sectors:
3.1 Sedimentology and Paleontology Sector;
Following are the tasks and responsibilities:
Cartography of sedimentary formations;
Obtainment of evidence and their preparation for research;
Laboratory research on mineralogical, geochemical and structural characteristics of sedimentary formations;
Interpretation of data and compilation or completion of existing sedimentalogic maps with new geological data;
Conduct of detailed studies of sedimentary formations;
Application of paleontologic, respectively micropaleontologic research for determination of the age of geological formations;
Presentation of basic concepts of structural geology (paleontology and stratography)

3.2 Hydrology Sector.
Following are the tasks and responsibilities:
Assessment, management and monitoring of ground waters in main water basins, and new opportunities for water supply;
Offers recommendations on rational use of water reserves;
Performs systematic measurement of hydro-geologic environmental indicators and their interpretation;
Offers recommendations on the protection of main aquifers from pollution, and drafts projects on water supply;
Performs complex monitoring of the countrys entire river, and offers relevant recommendations;
In cooperation with other structures of the KGA ensures the processing and digitalization of data, and realizes hydro-geologic maps of various scales and proportions.
