Muharrem Nitaj studied at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Prishtina.
Until 1990, he worked as a journalist at Radio Television of Prishtina, then, from 1993, he was a correspondent and editor of the BBC.
He was a lecturer at the Faculty of Journalism at AAB College. He was a member and Chairman of the Steering Council of the University of Prishtina.
For a short time, he was a Deputy Minister of Education in the last term.
In the sixth legislative period, he was a Member of the Assembly of Kosovo and was also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on Agriculture, Environment and Spatial Planning.
He is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo.
Since 20 June 2020, he has been the First Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Spatial Planning.
He lives in Prishtina. He is married and has 3 children.
